Dr Namrata Anavekar Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeon

Rhinoplasty

What is a Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that changes the shape of the nose. It may be performed for cosmetic reasons, to improve airflow through the nasal passages, or a combination of both.

What does it involve?

It is very important for Dr. Anavekar to carefully establish which features of your nose you are unhappy with and wish to improve. She will ask you several questions to understand what your goals are with regard to rhinoplasty surgery. She will also ask you several questions to ensure you are fit for surgery. Dr. Anavekar will then discuss in detail the operation involved, potential risks, and likely outcome.

The surgery is performed in an accredited private hospital. It is performed under general anesthetic with a qualified anesthetist. You may be required to stay in the hospital overnight. Dr. Anavekar will see you following your surgery and prior to discharge from the hospital.

What happens after surgery?

In the days after surgery, your nose will be quite swollen. The surrounding skin of the eyes may also be swollen and bruised. It is important approximately 2 weeks and to have regular pain medication. You will have a splint around your nose for 1 week. You should allow at least 2 weeks to recover at home prior to re-engaging in work and social commitments.

Following your discharge from the hospital, you will have review appointments with Dr. Anavekar and her practice nurse for up to 6 weeks. Additional review appointments may be scheduled, as deemed necessary.
