Facelift

What is a facelift?

A facelift, also known as rhytidectomy, is a procedure designed to restore a youthful appearance to the face. As a result of normal aging processes, facial skin and soft tissues descend, giving a “sagging” appearance. A facelift addresses these signs of aging by repositioning facial soft tissue and trimming excess skin.

What does it involve?

During your initial consultation with Dr. Anavekar, she will discuss what your main concerns are and the appearance you wish to achieve. She will ask you some questions to ensure you are fit for surgery. Dr. Anavekar will then discuss in detail the procedure involved, the recovery period, and potential risks.

The surgery is performed in an accredited private hospital. It is performed under general anesthetic with a qualified anesthetic. You will be required to stay in the hospital for 1-2 nights. Dr. Anavekar will see you following your surgery and prior to discharge from the hospital.

What happens after surgery?

In the days after surgery, you may experience mild to moderate discomfort, swelling, and bruising. It is important to rest with your head elevated and to apply cool packs in order to ensure a smooth recovery. You should allow at least 2 weeks to recover at home prior to re-engaging in work and social commitments.

Following your discharge from the hospital, you will have appointments to see Dr. Anavekar and her Practice Nurse during the first 6 weeks post surgery. She will also see you 6 and 12 months after surgery. Additional appointments may be scheduled on an as-needed basis.
