Body Lift

What is a body lift?

Following significant weight loss, there are often excess skin folds and fat overlying the hips, outer upper thighs, lower abdomen, and upper buttocks. A body lift is a surgical procedure that removes this excess tissue and enhances the overall silhouette.

Why undergo a body lift?

Often, following massive weight loss, there remains excess tissue surrounding one’s trunk, which can cause:

  • skin rashes
  • skin infections
  • impaired self esteem

A body lift can address the above concerns.

What does it involve?

During your initial consultation with Dr. Anavekar, you will have the opportunity to discuss your concerns and goals in terms of overall appearance. She will ask you questions and perform a clinical examination to ensure you are fit for surgery and to formulate a plan for you.

Dr. Anavekar will discuss the operation with you, as well as the potential risks involved. The surgery will be performed at an accredited private hospital under a general anesthetic provided by a qualified anesthetist.  You will be required to stay in the hospital for 2-3 nights.

What happens after surgery?

Dr. Anavekar will review you whilst you are in the hospital. It is normal to feel some discomfort for the first few days following surgery. You will be required to wear a tight-fitting abdominal garment for 6 weeks. It is advised that you take 2-3 weeks off from work and avoid any heavy lifting for 6 weeks.

You will then have review appointments with Dr. Anavekar & her practice nurse post surgery during the first 6 weeks. Additional review appointments may be scheduled, as deemed appropriate, after that.
